Hands on Homework - Week 5

As last week was maths week, here are a couple of problems for you to practice those thinking skills. Remember, drawing a picture might help!

1. I am in a line with my friends. There are two more of my friends ahead of me in the line than there are behind me. There are three times as many of my friends in the line altogether as there are behind me.
How many friends are ahead of me in the line?

2. Marie picks 5 more mushrooms than Phyllis, who picks 12 more than Darsh. Darsh picks half as many as her mother who picks 22.

How many mushrooms did they pick altogether?

Remember to justify your answer (you need to explain how you arrived at your answer!)
